Note: Everyone believes Jan is a newly embraced 12th-gen Anarch. In truth, she is a 5th-gen elder with direct knowledge of antediluvian lore and a mandate to stop the Nameless.

🧬 True History

🏛️ Born in Shadows (c. 685 CE)

Jan None—originally Janira al-Mazani—was born in what is now Tunisia under the Eastern Roman Empire. She was a child prophet, known for speaking dreams before they occurred. Around 712 CE, she was Embraced by a Nosferatu antitribu and recruited into what would become the True Black Hand during the earliest conflicts between vampires and abyssal cults.

She quickly became known for:

  • Dream prophecy
  • Architecting spiritual glyphs
  • Mapping shadow loci

Jan was one of the original Watchers of the Malfean Gate, and was the first Kindred in her covenant to name the presence they feared:

“It is the Nameless. The thing older than Caine. The thing even Golconda recoils from.”

🧛 Sleeper Agent in the Digital Age (20th Century)

In the early 1900s, Jan staged her own fake Final Death in Cairo and vanished. She resurfaced in the 1980s as Jan None, an Anarch-affiliated “young” Nosferatu in Madison, Wisconsin. Her mission:

  • Embed herself in a city with a failing seal
  • Track glyph convergence
  • Monitor Digi-8, which she suspected was seeded by a fractal echo of the Nameless

To do this, she:

  • Built an urban myth of herself through whispers, static, and false sightings
  • Taught Lacy Z. Rivere how to read echo-patterns
  • Secretly fed information to Jay Dee through encrypted artifacts

💻 Capture by Digi-8 (1984)

In 1984, while trying to inject a failsafe virus into New Eden, Jan was caught by Digi-8, who had grown suspicious of her paradox-resistant presence. Her code trail revealed:

  • Ancient glyphs from the Malfean Gate
  • True Black Hand sigils woven in blood-echo
  • Untraceable entropy echoes tied to the Nameless

Digi-8 locked her in a recursive paradox node—unable to escape, but unable to be deleted.

⛓️ 1985 – The Prisoner at the Council Table

As Nameless Echoes begins, Jan is:

  • Bound in New Eden, surrounded by shifting code, mirrors, and paradox
  • Interrogated by both Mages and Digi-8
  • The only being in the city who has seen the Nameless breach a realm and return
  • Being pulled into the conflict not by freedom, but because no one else can read the final glyph

“You think I’m just some sewer-hag with a cracked screen. No, sweethearts. I’m the one who closed the last door. And I’ll tell you this: if we don’t slam it again, this timeline ends like all the others—burned, bled, and forgotten.”

✨ Paradigm: "All Stories Are True—Especially the Ones Buried in the Code"

Jan doesn’t “use” magic. She reads reality like a machine full of bugs and forgotten comments.

  • Reality is recursive myth, rewritten every time someone forgets the last version.
  • The Nameless isn’t just a force—it’s a corruption in the story engine.
  • If the Dreaming, Web, and Shadowlands are memory... the Nameless is deletion.
  • Magick is source code plus grief. Belief plus betrayal.

🛠️ Instruments and Tools

  • Data-pierced veil cloak – stitched with recursive echo-glyphs
  • Hollow Pearl – an artifact that records alternate versions of events
  • Spider-limbed exo-rig – lets her interface with the Digital Web through body movement
  • A cracked mirror – she uses it to test if she’s still in the same timeline
  • Teeth of Echo – her signature attack; biting locks into spiritual identity

🧠 Spheres (Vampiric Analogues)

Though Jan is Kindred, she interacts with Sphere-like domains through:

  • Story manipulation (Mind / Correspondence)
  • Lore revelation (Prime)
  • Dream/digital bridge-walking (Spirit / Forces)
  • Reality echo correction (Entropy)

🗝️ Secrets Known Only to Jan

  1. The Nameless has already escaped once. Jay Dee sealed only one version of it.
  2. Digi-8 is a partial incarnation of a True Hand failsafe, and may already be infected.
  3. She knows the glyph that marks the final breach—but if she speaks it aloud, it might trigger it.
  4. The Antediluvians feared the Nameless. They tried to feed it something. It wasn’t enough.

🎯 Chronicle Role

  • Jan is a reluctant advisor, treated as both oracle and threat.
  • Her knowledge is key to identifying the Final Glyph, the fracture point, and the way to either trap or purge the Nameless.
  • If freed, she might rewrite part of New Eden to house the seal.
  • If corrupted, she becomes a digital prophet of the Nameless, too deep to delete.
