This period in the Madtown by Night Timeline covers the first known Nephandic attempt to weaken the prison of the Nameless.

Events

• An alliance of corrupted mages, spirits, and other supernatural beings discovers the ancient prison beneath the region that will eventually become Madison.

• The alliance attempts to weaken the prison through human sacrifice and Underworld magic.

• Thirteen Awakened people are sacrificed during the ritual. Their deaths create a lasting connection between the prison and the Underworld.

• The ritual briefly allows the Nameless to reach beyond its confinement. Supernatural disturbances spread throughout the Four Lakes region.

• The guardians of the prison stop the incursion before the Nameless can fully escape.

• One component of the ancient containment system, later called the Third Fire, is damaged during the conflict.

• The failure of the Third Fire leaves the prison vulnerable and leads to the renewal undertaken around 1000 BCE.

World of Darkness Events

• The Middle Kingdom of Egypt continues during this period.

• The Silent Striders and their allies struggle against Set and his servants. Published sources provide conflicting dates for these events.

• Ancient supernatural factions later connect the Nephandic incursion beneath the Four Lakes with contemporary conflicts involving the dead, corrupted spirits, and the servants of the Wyrm. These connections remain disputed.

Legacy

• The Nameless gains its first lasting connection to the Underworld.

• The prison remains damaged for approximately one thousand years.

• Later Nephandi attempt to reconstruct the sacrificial ritual.

• Records of the thirteen victims may eventually reach New Avalon, New Eden, or the Kronovore.
